Remember when you played Capcom's Dead Rising for the first time in 2006? Remember the joy, and excitement, you got at seeing a virtually endless lot of undead stumbling around, aiming for you? The game's sequel is aiming to dwarf the number of zombies you see on-screen... whenever it releases. Speaking at their GDC panel on the tech behind the anticipated sequel, Izmeth Siddeek, art lead on Dead Rising 2 at Canadian developer Blue Castle Games said that with their new software called Mental Mill, Dead Rising 2 has "the greatest number of characters ever seen in a video game." The hope is to realize nearly 6000 hungry zombies on your HDTV, and without having to settle for 3 or 4 character models or subpar visual detail, claims Mental Mill product manager, Laura Scholl. Did you hear that, Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop? ‘Dead Rising 2′ deal[s] with the rendering of the greatest number of characters ever seen in a video game. Everything else needed to be subordinated to this requirement.” That's a lot of undead. Hopefully there's a lot of ammo, or whatever you will find to defend yourself in a not-set-in-Las Vegas casino. Let's just pray that melee weapons don't break this time. |
