Have you and your 360 been affected by the dreaded "E74 error" like the one shown above? I know our trusty leader Frank has. Have you also been told by customer support: "Tough luck. Send in your Xbox and pay us $100 to fix it"?  Well, fret no more! The E74 error that has become more prominent as of late - especially since the NXE came out and since we've passed three years of 360 availability - is now covered by the same three-year warranty that Microsoft extended to cover the dreaded Red Ring of Death hardware malfunction in 2007.

This information was quietly updated to the Xbox Support page overnight. The great thing about this change is that if you were past the one-year warranty but would have been covered by the new, extended three-year warranty at the time of repair, Microsoft will be refunding your money if your console had bit the dust thanks to this error.

While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays "E74" on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007.

If you do not receive a refund by July 1st, 2009 you will need to claim one through Xbox.com/support before November 1st.
